[ intermediary immunity • section 79 it act ]

1. purpose and scope

these community guidelines establish the standards of conduct applicable to users of spillit ("platform").

spillit operates strictly as an intermediary under section 2(1)(w) and section 79 of the information technology act, 2000. the website owner and operator do not originate, verify, or endorse user-generated content and bear zero liability for user submissions or member conduct.

spillit is an online discussion platform intended to facilitate the sharing of experiences, opinions, frustrations and personal perspectives through pseudonymous participation.

these guidelines aim to support freedom of expression while protecting users against harassment, exploitation, unlawful conduct, privacy violations and other forms of harmful behaviour.

all guidelines and rules are effective immediately upon publication. in the event of policy updates, previous violations or existing non-compliant content are granted a 7-day cure window to rectify themselves.

these guidelines apply to all user-generated content and interactions on the platform, including posts, comments, replies, usernames, profile information, reports and other community features.

by accessing or using spillit, users are expected to comply with these guidelines, the terms of service and applicable law.

[ permitted expression • unfiltered venting ]

2. freedom of expression, venting, and informal language

spillit recognises that college life involves immense academic, social, and emotional pressure. students need an honest, unfiltered space to express frustration, anger, disappointment, and raw personal perspectives.

casual profanity and swearing: informal language, slang, and colloquial expletives are completely permitted. using swear words or strong language when venting about courses, campus life, or general situations does not violate platform rules and is not grounds for removal.

venting and complaining about people (the mandatory no-naming rule): students are allowed to vent or complain about faculty, administration, campus staff, or peers, provided that the people they discuss are never named or directly identified.

submissions must always use vague, generic, or department-level descriptions (such as "my physics faculty", "the registrar desk", "a chemistry lab instructor", or "my project partner"). publishing real names, full identities, office numbers, or direct personal links is strictly prohibited.

[ prohibited ]

3. harassment, bullying and targeted abuse

users must not use spillit to engage in targeted harassment, intimidation, bullying or conduct intended to humiliate, defame, or harm another person. prohibited conduct includes:

  • a. naming specific individuals to incite public ridicule, mob attacks, or targeted campus hostility;
  • b. repeatedly targeting a specific user with hostile or abusive comments;
  • c. publishing content intended to facilitate stalking or unwanted physical or online contact;
  • d. organizing coordinated smear campaigns or harassment brigading; and
  • e. using multiple accounts or deceptive methods to evade moderation actions.

general anonymous venting about a course, role, or campus unit without identifying names does not constitute targeted harassment.

[ anti-doxxing & no-naming standard ]

4. privacy, doxxing and the no-naming rule

users must respect individual privacy. while you may share personal experiences and complaints, identifying private persons by name or contact information is strictly forbidden:

  • a. naming individuals directly when airing grievances, allegations, or complaints (generic descriptions like "my professor" or "a classmate" must be used instead);
  • b. publishing another person's full name, phone number, private email address, social media handles, hostel room number, or personal documents;
  • c. sharing private correspondence, screenshots of private chats, or photographs that expose identifiable individuals;
  • d. attempting to unmask, deanonymize, or dox a pseudonymous spillit user; and
  • e. sharing account credentials, access tokens, or personal security details.
[ absolute zero tolerance ]

5. threats of violence, physical harm, and sexual threats

spillit enforces an uncompromising zero-tolerance policy against threats of any kind. prohibited content includes:

  • a. death threats or statements wishing death, fatal illness, or mortal harm upon any individual;
  • b. threats of physical violence, assault, beatings, or bodily harm;
  • c. sexual threats, coercion, non-consensual sexual intimidation, or predatory threats; and
  • d. instructions or encouragement intended to facilitate physical attacks against a target.

any post, comment, or reply containing threats of death, physical violence, or sexual harm will be instantaneously removed, and the originating account will be subject to immediate termination.

6. hate-based abuse and discrimination

users must not publish content that threatens, dehumanises, advocates violence against or engages in prohibited targeted abuse of individuals or groups on the basis of protected or otherwise legally relevant characteristics.

this restriction does not automatically prohibit the discussion of religion, politics, social issues, discrimination or controversial public matters. the context, purpose and nature of the content shall be considered when determining whether a violation has occurred.

7. defamation and unsubstantiated accusations

users may describe personal experiences and express opinions about institutions, services, public conduct and interactions with other individuals.

however, users must not knowingly publish materially false allegations presented as facts with the intention of unlawfully harming another person's reputation.

users should distinguish between personal experiences, opinions, allegations and independently verified facts. spillit may review complaints concerning potentially unlawful or harmful accusations and take appropriate action in accordance with applicable law. the submission of a complaint does not automatically establish that the disputed content is unlawful or must be removed.

8. impersonation and deceptive conduct

users must not impersonate another person, institution, moderator or spillit representative in a manner intended to deceive, defraud, threaten or harm others.

users must not use the platform to conduct scams, phishing, fraudulent schemes or other deceptive activities. parody, fictional scenarios and clearly identified role-play may be permitted where they do not violate other provisions of these guidelines.

[ prohibited • zero tolerance ]

9. sexual content, sexually degrading insults, and exploitation

while casual swearing used in general speech or venting is permitted, users must never direct sexually degrading insults, sexually abusive labels, or sexualized harassment toward anyone. users must not publish:

  • a. sexually degrading insults, slurs, or sexually abusive labels targeting any person;
  • b. sexual threats, coercion, non-consensual sexual intimidation, or sexual harassment;
  • c. child sexual abuse material or content involving the sexual exploitation of minors;
  • d. non-consensual intimate images, recordings, or doxxed intimate media;
  • e. intimate material obtained through unauthorised access or disclosure; and
  • f. content that facilitates sexual exploitation, trafficking or abuse.

general discussions of relationships, consent, and personal experiences are permitted subject to age restrictions and applicable law, but targeted sexual degradation is strictly prohibited.

10. self-harm and harmful behaviour

users may discuss emotional distress, difficult experiences, mental health concerns and personal struggles. spillit does not prohibit a user from discussing distress merely because the subject is uncomfortable or sensitive.

however, users must not use the platform to encourage another person to engage in self-harm, provide instructions intended to facilitate serious harm or deliberately exploit another person's vulnerability.

where content indicates an immediate or serious safety concern, spillit may review the content, restrict harmful material and provide relevant support information where appropriate. spillit is a community platform and does not represent itself as a substitute for emergency services, medical care or professional mental health treatment.

[ campus focus • strictly non-political ]

11. prohibition on political discussions and partisan debates

spillit is strictly an anonymous campus and university life platform. it is built for discussing college experiences, coursework, professors, campus culture, career challenges, and student living.

all external political discussions are prohibited. this includes:

  • a. political party commentary, promotion, or campaigning;
  • b. national, state, or regional partisan debates and political disputes;
  • c. political election propaganda or candidate endorsements; and
  • d. polarizing ideological arguments unrelated to university student life.

political posts or comments will be promptly removed to preserve spillit as a constructive, politics-free refuge for college students.

11. illegal content and activities

users must not use spillit to publish, distribute, solicit or facilitate content or activities prohibited by applicable law.

depending on the circumstances, prohibited material may include content involving exploitation, unlawful threats, fraudulent schemes, prohibited sexual material, unauthorised disclosure of protected information or instructions intended to facilitate serious criminal activity.

spillit may restrict content and cooperate with competent authorities where required by law. the handling of reported content shall be subject to applicable legal requirements and appropriate review procedures.

12. spam, manipulation and platform abuse

users must not:

  • a. publish repetitive or unsolicited promotional material in violation of platform rules;
  • b. manipulate voting, reactions or engagement through deceptive or automated means;
  • c. create accounts to evade restrictions or coordinate abuse;
  • d. disrupt the normal operation of the platform;
  • e. attempt to gain unauthorised access to systems, accounts or data; or
  • f. distribute malware, phishing links or other harmful technical material.

spillit may implement rate limits, automated detection, account restrictions and other reasonable measures to prevent abuse.

[ campus specific standard ]

13. academic and college discussions

spillit permits discussions concerning colleges, universities, faculty, students, campus activities and educational experiences. users may criticise institutional decisions, describe negative experiences and express dissatisfaction with academic or administrative practices.

however, users must not use college-related discussions to:

  • a. publish private student records or confidential academic information without authorisation;
  • b. expose personal contact information or sensitive details about students or staff;
  • c. encourage harassment or threats against an identifiable individual;
  • d. impersonate students, faculty members or institutional representatives; or
  • e. deliberately facilitate stalking, intimidation or other harmful conduct.

users should avoid including unnecessary identifying information when discussing sensitive incidents. spillit may restrict content where necessary to address credible privacy, safety or legal concerns.

14. copyright and intellectual property

users must not publish content that infringes another person's copyright, trademark or other intellectual property rights. users should submit only content they created, are authorised to use or may lawfully share.

copyright complaints shall be handled in accordance with the copyright policy and applicable law via support@xenodochy.com (evaluation takes at least 7 days).

15. reporting violations

users may report content or accounts that they believe violate these guidelines. reports should identify the relevant content and explain the nature of the concern sufficiently for review. spillit may prioritise reports involving:

  • a. credible threats of violence;
  • b. exposure of private information;
  • c. non-consensual intimate material;
  • d. exploitation or abuse involving minors;
  • e. serious harassment or stalking; and
  • f. other circumstances involving an urgent or significant safety risk.

users should not publicly confront an individual or disclose additional private information merely to substantiate a report. spillit shall review reports in accordance with its moderation procedures and applicable legal obligations.

review timeline notice: any kind of support request, violation report, or moderation email sent anywhere to us will take at least 7 days to be reviewed and processed.

16. moderation and enforcement

spillit may take proportionate action when content or conduct violates these guidelines. depending on the nature and seriousness of the violation, measures may include:

  • a. removing or restricting content;
  • b. issuing a warning;
  • c. temporarily limiting posting or other account functionality;
  • d. suspending an account;
  • e. permanently terminating an account; or
  • f. taking further action required or permitted by applicable law.

the severity, frequency and context of the violation may be considered when determining the appropriate response. spillit may take immediate action where necessary to address a serious or urgent safety risk. where reasonably practicable and legally permissible, affected users may receive an explanation of the decision and information about available review procedures.

17. appeals

users who believe that moderation action was taken incorrectly may request a review through the designated appeal mechanism by contacting support@xenodochy.com.

an appeal should identify the relevant decision and explain the reasons for requesting reconsideration. spillit shall assess appeals according to its procedures and applicable legal obligations. submitting an appeal does not guarantee that the original decision will be reversed. all appeals take at least 7 days to be reviewed and evaluated from receipt.

18. misuse of reporting and moderation systems

users must not knowingly submit false or malicious reports for the purpose of harassing, intimidating or silencing another person. spillit may take action against repeated misuse of reporting or moderation features.

however, a report shall not be treated as abusive merely because the reported content is ultimately found not to violate the guidelines.

19. changes to these guidelines

spillit may update or modify these guidelines at any time to reflect changes in platform architecture, community practices, safety imperatives, statutory obligations or judicial orders.

all modified rules and standards take effect immediately upon their publication on spillit.online. where an update introduces newly prohibited criteria or policies that apply retroactively to existing content, users and contributors are granted a 7-day cure window from the timestamp of publication to review, edit or delete any prior non-compliant posts or comments.

acute safety violations—including non-consensual intimate imagery, child exploitation material, doxxing, actionable death threats or terroristic incitement—are strictly exempt from the 7-day cure window and remain subject to instantaneous removal, account termination and statutory law enforcement escalation without prior notice.

reports involving urgent safety concerns should be submitted through the designated reporting mechanism or other appropriate contact channel. nothing in these guidelines limits any right or remedy available under applicable law.

sensitive content policy

website: spillit.online • applicable platform: spillit anonymous campus network • last updated: 20 october 2026
[ sensitive content reporting timeline: at least 7 days ]

all sensitive content reports, complaints, moderation inquiries, and emails sent anywhere to us take at least 7 days to review and process.

[ intermediary safe harbour • section 79 it act ]

1. purpose and statutory intermediary safe harbour

this sensitive content policy establishes requirements for publishing, displaying, reporting and moderating content that may expose users to distress, exploitation, privacy violations or other significant harm.

spillit operates strictly as a passive intermediary under section 79 of the information technology act, 2000 and rule 3 of the intermediary guidelines rules, 2021. the website owner, platform operator, founders and administrators do not pre-screen, verify or endorse user-generated content and bear zero personal, civil or criminal liability for user submissions.

all standards under this policy take effect immediately upon publication. when standards are updated, prior submissions are granted a 7-day cure window from the revision date to be modified or deleted before enforcement penalties apply, except for acute harms (e.g. cnam, doxxing, violence) which remain subject to instantaneous removal.

spillit recognises that discussions involving difficult personal experiences, relationships, emotional distress, health, sexuality and other sensitive subjects may be important to users.

the purpose of this policy is not to prohibit sensitive discussions indiscriminately. it is to distinguish between legitimate discussion of difficult subjects and content that violates user safety, privacy, applicable law or the platform's community guidelines.

this policy applies to all posts, comments, replies, images, videos, links and other material submitted through the platform.

2. general principles

sensitive content shall be assessed according to its nature, context, purpose and potential impact. spillit shall seek to:

  • a. permit lawful and constructive discussion of difficult experiences;
  • b. restrict content that facilitates exploitation, abuse or serious harm;
  • c. protect users against the unauthorised disclosure of private information;
  • d. provide appropriate mechanisms for reporting and reviewing sensitive material;
  • e. apply content warnings or access restrictions where appropriate and technically supported; and
  • f. comply with applicable legal requirements concerning prohibited content and user safety.

the presence of a sensitive topic shall not, by itself, constitute grounds for removal.

3. emotional distress and mental health discussions

users may discuss personal struggles, emotional distress, loneliness, anxiety, relationship difficulties, grief and other challenging experiences. spillit permits users to share their experiences and seek community understanding, subject to the community guidelines and applicable law. users must not:

  • a. encourage another person to engage in self-harm or suicide;
  • b. provide instructions intended to facilitate serious self-injury;
  • c. deliberately target or exploit a person's disclosed emotional vulnerability;
  • d. encourage others to harass, shame or threaten a person because of their mental health; or
  • e. present abusive or exploitative conduct as a means of coercing a distressed person.
spillit may restrict content that encourages serious harm or exploits a person's vulnerability. where appropriate, spillit may provide links to verified support resources. spillit does not provide emergency response services or represent community discussions as professional diagnosis or treatment.
[ crisis safeguards ]

4. suicide and self-harm content

discussion of suicidal thoughts, self-harm experiences, recovery and support may be permitted where it does not violate applicable law or other provisions of this policy. however, users must not publish content that:

  • a. encourages, instructs or pressures another person to engage in suicide or self-harm;
  • b. provides detailed instructions intended to facilitate serious self-injury;
  • c. glorifies or promotes self-harm as desirable conduct;
  • d. encourages vulnerable individuals to conceal serious danger from appropriate sources of assistance; or
  • e. uses another person's distress to threaten, manipulate or abuse them.
urgent intervention limitation notice:

spillit may restrict graphic or instructional material creating significant risk of harm. where a post suggests immediate danger, spillit may take proportionate action based on available technical capabilities. users should not assume that posting about an emergency will result in immediate intervention. if you or someone else is in immediate danger, reach out to emergency services or call tele-manas at 14416 immediately.

5. sexual content and relationships

spillit may permit lawful, age-appropriate discussions concerning relationships, consent, sexual health, intimacy and personal experiences. users must not publish:

  • a. child sexual abuse material or sexual exploitation material involving minors;
  • b. non-consensual intimate images or recordings;
  • c. sexual content involving coercion, exploitation or abuse;
  • d. intimate images or information obtained through unauthorised access or disclosure;
  • e. content facilitating sexual violence, trafficking or exploitation; or
  • f. sexual material prohibited by applicable law.

the platform may also restrict explicit content that is inconsistent with its age policy, advertising requirements or other published rules. content warnings, access restrictions or other controls may be used for permitted discussions that contain sensitive material. the use of a content warning does not make otherwise prohibited content acceptable.

6. violence, injury and graphic material

content discussing violence, accidents, injuries, abuse or other traumatic experiences may be permitted where it serves a legitimate discussion purpose and complies with applicable law. spillit may restrict or remove:

  • a. graphic material primarily intended to shock, threaten or harass;
  • b. content glorifying or encouraging unlawful violence;
  • c. material used to intimidate a specific person;
  • d. content facilitating violent acts; and
  • e. graphic or otherwise prohibited material whose publication violates applicable law.

where permitted material contains disturbing descriptions or imagery, spillit may apply content warnings or display restrictions where appropriate and technically supported.

7. harassment, abuse and personal allegations

users may describe negative experiences involving classmates, faculty, colleagues, partners or other individuals. such discussions must not be used to expose private information, threaten individuals, organise harassment or facilitate unlawful conduct. spillit may restrict content that includes:

  • a. personal contact information published without an appropriate lawful basis;
  • b. private correspondence disclosed in a harmful or unlawful manner;
  • c. identifying details that create a significant risk of stalking or harassment;
  • d. threats or calls for others to attack an individual; or
  • e. knowingly false and materially harmful allegations that violate applicable law or the community guidelines.

spillit may consider whether a post can remain available after removing unnecessary identifying information. a complaint or allegation shall not automatically be treated as false or unlawful merely because it is disputed.

8. personal data and confidential information

users must not publish sensitive personal information about another individual without an appropriate lawful basis or permission. this includes information that may expose a person to identity theft, stalking, discrimination, exploitation or other significant harm. examples include:

  • a. home addresses and personal contact details;
  • b. government identification numbers and financial information;
  • c. account credentials and authentication information;
  • d. private medical or health records;
  • e. confidential educational or employment records; and
  • f. private photographs, messages or recordings disclosed without appropriate authorisation.

spillit may remove or restrict content that presents a significant privacy or safety risk. users should also consider whether information included in their own posts could indirectly reveal their identity.

[ absolute prohibition ]

9. content involving minors

spillit prohibits content involving the sexual exploitation or abuse of minors. users must not use the platform to groom, exploit, threaten or sexually solicit minors.

the platform may remove or restrict content that exposes children to exploitation, serious harm or unlawful disclosure of personal information. where required by applicable law, spillit shall take appropriate action in relation to suspected unlawful material and comply with applicable reporting and preservation obligations.

spillit shall establish and communicate an appropriate minimum-age policy and implement safeguards required by applicable law.

10. illegal and exploitative material

users must not publish, request, distribute or facilitate content prohibited by applicable law. depending on the circumstances, this may include material involving exploitation, unlawful threats, non-consensual intimate content, prohibited sexual material, serious criminal activity or other unlawful conduct.

spillit may restrict access to reported material, investigate complaints and comply with valid legal orders or directions issued by competent authorities. where legally required, appropriate information may be preserved or disclosed to competent authorities.

11. content warnings and display controls

spillit may introduce content warnings or display restrictions for permitted material that may be distressing or sensitive. depending on the features implemented, users may be able to:

  • a. view a warning before opening certain content;
  • b. hide or reveal flagged material;
  • c. report content that lacks an appropriate warning; or
  • d. adjust available display preferences.

content warnings are intended to help users make informed decisions about what they view. they do not guarantee that all disturbing content will be identified in advance. a warning does not authorise content that is prohibited under this policy or applicable law.

12. reporting sensitive content

users may report sensitive content through the platform's reporting mechanism or designated contact channel (support@xenodochy.com). reports may concern:

  • a. graphic or disturbing content;
  • b. encouragement of self-harm or serious violence;
  • c. sexual exploitation or non-consensual intimate material;
  • d. exposure of private information;
  • e. harassment or abuse involving sensitive disclosures; or
  • f. other content that may violate this policy.

users should identify the relevant content and provide a brief explanation of the concern where possible. spillit may prioritise reports involving serious safety risks, exploitation, threats or unlawful content. submitting a report does not guarantee removal; reports shall be assessed in accordance with applicable policies and legal requirements.

report processing timeline: all sensitive content reports, complaints, and emails will take at least 7 days to review and evaluate.

13. moderation and enforcement

spillit may remove content, restrict access, apply warnings, limit account functionality or suspend accounts where a violation occurs. the action taken may depend on:

  • a. the seriousness of the content;
  • b. the likelihood and severity of potential harm;
  • c. whether the content involves a vulnerable individual;
  • d. whether the conduct is repeated;
  • e. whether the content violates applicable law; and
  • f. the user's relevant history of violations.

spillit may take immediate action where necessary to address serious or urgent risks. where reasonably practicable and legally permissible, affected users may receive an explanation of the decision and information about available appeal procedures.

14. support resources and emergencies

spillit may provide links to support services for users seeking assistance with emotional distress, abuse, exploitation or other difficult circumstances. the availability and scope of any such service shall be described accurately.

unless expressly established otherwise, spillit does not operate as an emergency service, medical provider or professional counselling service. users facing immediate danger should contact the appropriate emergency services or other qualified assistance available in their location. users should not rely on a post, report or message to spillit as a guarantee of immediate intervention.

15. limitations of content moderation

spillit may use automated systems, user reports and human review to identify content that may violate this policy. these methods may not identify every violation or correctly interpret every submission.

users should report content that appears harmful or unlawful rather than assuming it has already been reviewed. nothing in this section removes spillit's obligations under applicable law.

16. relationship with other policies

this sensitive content policy shall be read together with:

where content violates more than one policy, spillit may apply the relevant provisions and take proportionate action consistent with applicable law.

17. amendments and immediate effectiveness

spillit may amend this policy at any time to reflect changes in platform functionality, community safety practices, moderation protocols or statutory law. all amendments become effective immediately upon publication on this page, marked with 'last updated: 20 october 2026' (or subsequent timestamp).

where an amendment introduces newly restricted content standards that apply to existing publications, members are provided a 7-day cure window from the amendment publication timestamp to review, modify or delete prior non-compliant content. acute safety threats, sexual exploitation, doxxing and violent incitement are exempt from any cure window and are removed instantaneously.
